The short answer
Two hours a fortnight is the most common starting point.
At the $83 from-rate, a two-hour fortnightly visit is about $166, or roughly $83 a week averaged out. A weekly two-hour visit is about $166 a week. The right frequency depends on the home, the pets and the people.
| Support | From | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic assistance | $83 / hour | Cleaning, laundry, linen and tidying. |
What two hours actually covers
For a one or two person home, two hours is usually enough for the bathroom, kitchen, floors, dusting and a load of laundry. It is not enough for a deep clean, a garage, or a house that has not been cleaned in a year.
A first visit often takes longer because there is catch-up work. Agree the scope before you start so the first invoice is not a surprise.
Frequency and cost
| Pattern | Hours a fortnight | From, per fortnight |
|---|---|---|
| Bathroom and kitchen only | 1 | $83 |
| Standard clean | 2 | $166 |
| Standard clean plus laundry and linen | 3 | $249 |
| Larger home or pets | 4 | $332 |
What changes the cost
- Condition of the home. A first deep clean takes longer than upkeep.
- Pets. Hair, floors and the time to work around them.
- Size and clutter. More rooms and more surfaces take more time.
- Laundry and ironing. Often the biggest variable.
- Products and equipment. We use yours by default. Bringing our own is agreed first.
How to keep it affordable
Prioritise. The bathroom and kitchen matter most for health and safety. Floors next. Dusting and skirting boards can wait. Agree the priority list and protect it.
Do the preparation. Clear the benches and put things away before the visit. It sounds small, but it converts cleaning time into cleaning.
Choose the right frequency. Weekly is not a moral standard. Fortnightly is enough for many homes.
Funding
Domestic assistance can be funded through an NDIS plan where household tasks relate to the disability, through an aged care package, or privately. Ask your plan manager or provider what your plan allows.
Keep the invoices. Domestic support is one of the categories most likely to be queried at review if the records are vague.
A clean home is a safety measure
Clutter, spills and poor lighting cause falls. A regular clean is not cosmetic. It is part of keeping the house safe.
Common questions
Do you bring cleaning products?
We use yours by default. If you would rather we brought our own, tell us when you book and we will agree what is needed.
Is a deep clean included?
No. The regular visit covers upkeep. A first-time deep clean is a separate conversation about time and cost.
Can you do laundry and ironing?
Yes, as part of the visit. Tell us your machine settings and anything that must not go in the dryer.
Do I need to be home?
No. We agree the access plan first, including keys, key safes and alarms.
Can I get help with just the bathroom?
Yes. One hour a fortnight for the bathroom and kitchen is a common starting point.
