Funding
Funding care, in plain words.
You do not need to understand the whole system before you call. Start with the door that sounds closest to your situation. We will help with the rest.
Private care
The simplest door. You pay us directly, and you choose the support.
Private care suits people who do not want to wait for an assessment, or who need a little help before funding is sorted. You book the support you want, when you want it.
There is no funding paperwork and no plan manager. We agree the rate, the carer and the schedule with you before the first visit.
Some people use private care for a short stretch after hospital. Others use it for a regular weekly rhythm. Both are fine.
What you need
- A phone number and a good time to call.
- An idea of what would help, even a rough one.
- Your suburb, so we can confirm travel.
NDIS
For participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. We support the daily living and clinical pieces, not the plan management.
The NDIS can fund supports that help you live safely and independently at home. That can include personal care, help with domestic tasks, transport and nursing, depending on what is in your plan.
If you are self-managed, you pay us and claim from your plan. If you are plan-managed, your plan manager handles the invoice. We can provide the service descriptions and invoices each pathway needs.
We are not a plan manager, support coordinator or registered provider. We will tell you plainly what we can and cannot do for your plan.
What to have ready
- Your NDIS number, if you have it.
- Whether you are self-managed or plan-managed.
- The supports you want help with.
Support at Home
The Australian Government's home care program. Eligibility and contributions are handled through My Aged Care.
Support at Home is for older Australians who need help to keep living at home. It replaces the old Home Care Packages program over time. An assessment through My Aged Care works out what you are eligible for.
If you are exploring this pathway, ask us what applies to your situation. We will point you to the right starting point and explain how our services fit, without pretending to be the assessor.
Support at Home clients may pay only the government-set subsidised contribution, where it applies. The exact amount depends on your assessment and income.
A good first step
Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to start an assessment. Then call us to talk through what support would look like in practice.
Read the plain-English guideWhat we will not do
We will not tell you that you are eligible for something before an assessor has decided. We will not manage your NDIS funds. We will not promise a government contribution amount. If we do not know, we will say so and point you to the body that does.
If you are comparing funding pathways, the official starting points are My Aged Care for older Australians and the NDIS for participants. Both are linked in the guides below.
This page is general information, not financial, legal or eligibility advice. Funding rules can change. Confirm your situation with the relevant government body.
Funding questions
If your question is not here, call us. A real person answers.
Are you a registered NDIS provider?
We support NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. We are not a plan manager. Ask us directly about your plan and we will tell you plainly whether we can help.
Can you help me understand my NDIS plan?
We can explain how our supports fit into your plan and what to ask your support coordinator or plan manager. We cannot give financial or legal advice.
What is Support at Home?
Support at Home is the Australian Government's home care program. Eligibility, assessments and contributions are handled through My Aged Care. Ask us what applies to your situation and we will point you to the right service.
Do I need a referral?
For private care, no. For NDIS or Support at Home, the funding pathway may need an assessment or plan. We will explain what we need from you before anything starts.
Not sure which door fits?
Tell us your situation. We will tell you honestly which funding pathway to look at first, even if that means another provider.
