A weekly shop is a stack of small tasks: the list, the drive, the walk from the car, the aisles, the queue, the bags, the unpacking. If any one of those is hard, the whole trip becomes something to postpone.

Choose the version that fits

  • Online delivery. Order from home, choose a window, and have it brought to the door.
  • Click and collect. Order online, collect at the kerb, or have someone collect for you.
  • Accompanied shop. A carer drives, walks with you and carries the bags. You choose.
  • Shopping done for you. A carer shops from your list and puts it away.

Each has a different level of effort and control. Many people use online for the heavy basics and an accompanied shop for fresh food and the outing.

Make the list work

Keep a running list on the fridge. Note the brand and size you want, because substitutions are where online shopping goes wrong. Mark anything that must not be substituted.

A photo of the empty packet is faster than a description. So is a photo of the shelf where it lives.

Reduce the carrying

Ask for bags to be placed on the bench, not the floor. Keep a trolley or a basket by the door. Put the heavy items in one bag so nobody has to hunt for them.

If you use a walker, a basket attachment makes a small shop possible without carrying.

Money and receipts

If someone shops for you, agree how payment works before the first trip. A card, a float or a receipt-and-reimburse arrangement all work, as long as it is clear. Every receipt should come back.

The outing is part of the point

For some people, the supermarket is the main time they leave the house. Do not optimise it away. An accompanied shop can be company, exercise and a change of scene, not just groceries.

What to do when it is too much

Ask for help before you are exhausted. A fortnightly shop with a carer, plus a small top-up on foot, is sustainable. Doing the full shop alone until you cannot is not.

Common questions

Can a carer shop without me?

Yes. We shop from your list, call if something is unclear, and put everything away.

How does payment work?

Agreed before the first trip. Card, cash float or receipt-and-reimburse.

Can you collect a prescription?

We can collect a script you have already lodged. We do not give medication advice.

What if an item is out of stock?

We call and ask. We do not substitute without your okay.

Can you take me to a specific shop?

Yes, subject to transport availability. Tell us the shop and the access needs.
